rarrrr... not a great run.. but one more down

Well.. I got out again today and did my course. It's the same as the last course I ran - although, I did NOT have my friendly Ipod or music, or Nike+ trainer to encourage me along or record anything!

I am proud to say that I remembered about where I ran before, I got in 8 cycles of run/walk - and did home to home in about 35 min! Including walking down a big hill and up a steep incline.

but no records or firm numbers to report.

My knee is feeling pretty good... but my other hip has started to bother me today... hum... let's just hope it's a fluke or something.

March17 T-Minus... this thing is coming up quick

I haven't run since Last post!! Life got busy, and finding time for basic tasks became difficult. I have to set this time aside and do this for myself.. but it's difficult when everyone else needs you for something, and a million things need to be accomplished - and I'm only one person.

So.. today - I worked out.
I did C25K Workout 1.3 AGAIN (this is the threepete). I did my workout OUTSIDE where the weather was a lovely 70!! Can you believe that.. in Michigan, In March! Although it was a weeeee bit breezy..lol

Workout Time 719pm
Distance 2.40 Miles
Time 39.50
Pace: 16'34
Calories 442

Not my best, not my worst. I am trying to work through a little knee pain, I had been wearing a brace - and didn't wear it today (forgot it when I took off out of the house)

today - I had my daughter with me, she rode her bike in circles around me while I walked and jogged. Jogging today felt so SLOOOOW.  I was moving and sweating - but I didn't feel like I got very far during each jogging episode.
Time to move onto the Week 2 Workouts.
My daughter started her Girls on the Run program last week - and the event is the end of MAY!!!

March 6th - First time running outdoors

So I ran outside today. It was cold, about 32 - but the sun was shinning and felt so warm from inside - I just knew I needed to be out  in the sun. It's good for the mood, it's good for the soul.
So While I had a little time - I put on a few layers, grabbed the Ipod and off I headed.
I had no idea "how far" I would get. I know where we like to walk in the summer - but have no actual idea of the distance.

My actual 30 min workout for C25K had me actually go 2.2 miles. I did miss a run or two today, as I repeated workout 1.3. Figuring I was entering a new environment - I didn't want to also lengthen my run today.  This run was NOT by any means flat ground, I had small inclines and declines, a pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks (that entered my path during a run phase - but due to snow and ice - I decided i would just be happy getting through it with out ending up on my bum).

I continued my workout - in just walking until I reached home again - and here are the results:

distance: 2.88 miles
Time 47.10
Pace 16'22"
Calories 530.

C25K Program followed 1.3 (plus another 17 as you can see)

My running pace certainly is sloooow.

March 3

I completed a workout today! After having a few days of right knee pain, I purchased a knee support on my way to the field house. This was After visiting my grandfather in the hospital, after stopping off at the local Box factory for the arts and visiting the kidos 2 pieces in the show.

We made it to the field house, had exactly 40 min.. to change and get on and off the track (thank you packed full evening).
I did the workout, the knee felt pretty good with help of the brace.

Today's workout details
C25K Workout 1.3
Nike+ details
Distance 2.11 miles
Time: 32.01 (walk/jog)
Pace: 15'10 per mile
Calories: 388

I fell pretty good and think I might have FINALLY had a taste of a runners High. I felt good, the running Spirits were not as difficult as that first round.. and I didn't even THINK about skipping a run portion. It looks like I have a change coming for week 2.
Run sessions get longer, so do walk sessions. It looks like the program works to stay at 30 min. though... that means they are hoping I can run a 30 min 5k at the end of this... hmmmm..

Looks like the weather is thinking about getting a little warmer... soon it will be time to head outside and find a path to run/walk. Guess I need to research and find one of those programs that helps you make running route huh?

March 2

I should have gone running again today. My knees are a little achy though, so I thought I'd give them one more day of rest. Tomorrow is my "regular" day to get a workout in at the track so we'll hit it tomorrow.  I'll also be sure to grab my knee supports or purchase a new one. It's to early in the workouts to have sore knees.
Funny - after my two previous walk/run sessions - my knees felt great the next day. Yesterday I walked up and down a few flights of stairs (about 8 times each) and today my knees ache.  They even ached a bit while I was walking the stairs...  even sitting at my desk today - I was reminded several times by the achy joint not to bend them under myself and prop them on the legs and wheels. (I don't sit on them, just rest them on the wheel arms under the chair).

So we'll run ... tomorrow.. I'll do a few sit ups and some leg raises here while I watch a little tv tonight.. :)

Doc. Update

Had a follow up Doc. apt. on friday. Needless to say I did not hear any good news, different news or otherwise. I weighed in - at 1 lb higher then I was in November when I went in.

I guess on the upside - I have a higher number to start working my way down from right.

It is frustrating and upsetting. I can't get my body to work like everyone elses - I get seem to get the hormones including insulin to do what they should.

So.. doc is keeping me on the same meds for now... see if things change while I train for this 5k.

I sat at work today and did some arm circles while I talked on the phone today. and walked about 5 laps around the warhouse while I waited for my lunch in the microwave.

Feb 28 - Day 21ish

I've been so busy! Last Thursday - The 24th - I COMPLETED my first Couch2 5K (C25K) program.
Known on the Ipod as Workout 1.1!  I strapped on the Ipod, tried to figure out the Nike+ program (only to figure out later that it did NOT record my workout.. I didn't turn it on.. but fear not - I figured it out!

The C25K program involves a 5 min warm up, 20 min alternating between walking and jogging (as the program moves on - the length of time you walk or jog will vary). The first week is 90 sec walking 60 sec of jogging.  I am VERY proud to say that I worked the ENTIRE program!  Although there were several times that I thought.. oh.. I'm gonna need to skip the next run phase.. and just walk harder.. but I didn't.. I ran every single stinking time! I think it comes out to something like 8 cyles of run/walk.

The program wants you to do the program 3 days a week.. and they emphasize that the the "off" day is very important for muscle building and healing. Well.. I took 3 days off! lol. Busy weekend, and cruddy weather and a particularly rotten mood on Sunday ment I didn't do another workout... till today.

Today I went up to the track again. Any time I mess up.. I just need to remind myself that tomorrow is chance to start over.  So.. program 1.2 was completed today.  I walked with my significant other for a mile first... partially to calibrate my Nike+ program and to get a base I suppose. The results were:
Distance: 1.3 miles
Times: 18.09.
Pace 17"36" per mile
Calories 190

then It was time to hit the Run/walk portion of training.
So I let my Nike+ program track the details and let the C25K program tell me when to walk/run
1.2 Program results:
Distance 1.76 miles
Time 26.18 (I cut the cool down short)
Pace: 14'51 per Mile
Calories 326

so for today - my total was a
Distance 2.82 miles
Best Mile 14'56

 So there we have it..

i'm proud I've been able to do it.. I did have to skip one run phase in today's workout.. I needed a drink. Last workout - I didn't walk the mile before hand. I was thirsty! lol

So Now I've got my first workouts actually logged in with real information. I've loaded the information to my new Nike+ account. But I cna't log that info here - seems it only wants to share on twitter or facebook - and this might be a bit much info for some folks on Facebook.  So I'll just keep posting the info here in the bloggy blog.
